Getting Started

The start of any new venture can be intimidating. However, stepping on to your yoga mat for the first time is the start of a journey to uncovering and understanding the many layers of yourself. Below are a few tips as you prepare for your first yoga class.

  • Wear clothing that is comfortable and allows you to move with ease.

  • You do not need to invest in expensive gear to begin. Mat rentals are free at our studio and props are available for use in all of our classes. If you prefer to bring your own mat, a standard mat of 1/4” thickness is recommended.

  • Consider arriving at least 15 minutes prior to the start of the class. Arriving early will allow you time to register, get a tour of the space, and connect with the instructor.

  • As Dianne Bondy states, “You have a PhD in your own experience”. Trust that you know what is best for your body and that you are encouraged to make the choices that best suit you throughout the practice.

  • Begin where you are.

Recommended Class Options

Classes on our schedule are appropriate for all levels of practitioners- from the complete novice to more seasoned students. Our team of highly trained teachers are prepared to offer options to make the practice approachable and accessible. While classes are open to all, it may be helpful to begin with a class style that offers a slower pace- which will allow for more time to explore and experience the poses. The following classes are ideal places to start:

  • Slow Flow

  • Align & Restore

  • Foundations

  • Kaiut Yoga

  • Yin
