Yoga Nidra is an ancient deep rest practice that guides the mind into a state between wakefulness and dreaming. During this practice, you'll maintain auditory awareness while limiting input from other senses during a guided meditation that proceeds through the 5 koshas (layered aspects of the physical-mental-energetic bodies) to discover, process, and ultimately release deep tensions and blocks. Benefits of the practice can include better sleep quality, improved memory, increased creativity basically a general reset for the central nervous system.

Each session will begin with 15 minutes of asana practice to help prepare the physical body for stillness, then we'll take our time propping ourselves into positions where we can relax into ease and comfort. While each roughly 45-minute yoga nidra practice will be different, they will all follow the same basic format: preparation, resolve, rotation of consciousness, breath work, opposite sensations, visualizations, and return. Then, we'll slowly reground through our senses and return to the waking world. There will be time at the end for optional journaling.

This series emphasizes the importance of alignment in poses, breaking down poses to explore its parts. The slower, more intentional pace and the approach of bringing sharp focus to specific aspects of each posture enhances the effectiveness of the shape while giving students confidence and autonomy in their practice.

This Hatha style practice focusing on foundational asana (poses) is meant for beginners and advanced practitioners alike. Participants can expect to hold poses for multiple breaths which provides time to build an awareness of their body in space, focus on different aspects of the posture, and explore modifications and the usage of props to increase or decrease intensity, promoting stability and growth within the practice.
